Art Challenge

Art Challenge

Last winter I completed a 100 day art challenge. The object was to complete one art piece a day for 100 days. I did it, and I very happy to have completed it! I can't say it wasn't difficult, but once in the groove it became easier. The main thing that made it easy was that it was no theme. To work on art every day is fun, and doing whatever I feel like is fun! It was artist choice, and that is how I work best.

But this next challenge, this 30 day challenge, kicked my butt! You would think 30 days would have been so much easier than 100. No it wasn't! The theme was red. Sounds simple right? The color red, in the winter, what could be better? Well, I don't know, but on day fifteen I was so sick of working with red It felt like I was on day 99! It isn't that I don't love the color red, because I do! It is one of my favorites and is one of my best selling colors, but seeing it and nothing else day after day wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be!

I love color, a lot but not just one! Definately a learning experience for me. I have been talking about color theory for years and how color sets the mood, or makes you feel a certain way, but never have I experienced it so dramatically, first hand, that way.

I did finish the challenge, all 30 days of it, and am more proud of that feet, than I am of finishing the 100 days. That that is why I have posted my certificate. I don't want to forget this one and all that red color!

Color and the use thereof

Color and the use thereof

I stumbled upon this today and I had to stop and take note. She beautifully defined what I like to do with color.

"Artists are more likely than anyone to forget the power of color to subsume form and directly influence our perception of the size and grandeur of things. The more monochromatic a composition, the more color takes the place of form. If artists would only place color at the center of their attention, a preoccupation with the “real” would quickly fade away. They would come to a deeper appreciation of how the juxtaposition of color amounts to a contrast of values that voraciously feed upon or gently meld into one another." -

Art and Music

Art and Music

Art and music. How do you separate the two? Notes and colors. Highs and lows Pitch and palette. So interconnected. The tempo of a piece, dark moody bright. Calm and peaceful! Art becomes music as music is art. An opera - voice and oil. How they blend.

I think of abstract pieces in this way. Do you?
