As kids we would swim in the ocean, not get bashed about in the surf, but swim out there where it gets deep. A running start was required to evade the lifeguards. A quick dive into the breakers and swim like mad until we were out of sight. Once out there we would let the current take us to the beaches farther out on the island. Then Jaws came out and ended that relationship with the water.
